The wall of bone and Cartilage that divides nose into two Nostrils is known as Septum. When a Septum move to one side of nose, is called Deviated Septum.
Deviated Septum could be by birth or can also be caused by an injury. Individuals with Deviated Septum could have one nostril which is much smaller than the other one. This can cause difficulty in breathing and also nose bleeding and facial pain is possible. As per words from Dr. David Greene Arizona, surgery is the only solution for this, which is called Septoplasty.
Surgery Preparation: As per Dr. Greene, you should stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners two weeks before surgery. This is to prevent bleeding during and after surgery. If you have a history of bleeding problems or allergy from certain medicines, be sure to tell your doctor in advance.
A General Advise: Do not ear or drink anything after midnight, a night before the procedure if you are going to be under general Anesthesia. This could help you prevent Vomiting and Choking if you become nauseated from the Anesthesia during Surgery.
Septoplasty Procedure: As per David Greene Orthopedic, Septoplasty is a procedure takes approx 30 to 90 minutes to complete which is completely depends upon the complexity of the condition. You could be under local and General Anesthesia, depending on what you and your doctor decide is best for you.
A Surgeon will make an incision in one side of the nose to access the Septum. Then they will lift up the mucous membrane, which is the protecting cover of the septum and then they will move the deviated septum in the right position. Extra pieces of bone and Cartilage will be removed and then at last mucous membrane will be repositioned.
This is the whole process you would go through during Septoplasty and in case of any queries regarding the above-shared information, feel free to drop in the comment box.
