Ear infection can include Middle ear or outer or both and can cause ear pain, fever, fluid drainage and hearing problems, said Dr. David Greene MD, Arizona Orthopedic. Children are prone to ear infections than adults as their eustachian tubes are smaller and get blocked easily.
Middle ear infections occur in children and adults but mostly in children. Commonly ear infections are viral and bacterial and sometimes they need more than antibiotics. According to Doctor David Greene, antibiotics responds very well to bacterial infection.
Water in the ear cause outer ear infection and the more chance of infection are in the swimmers as the water goes into ear and helps bacterias to grow which causes infection. Swimmers need to wet their ears right after the bath or swimming.
Dr. David Grene shared the major symptoms of ear infections:
Swelling and Redness
Pain and itching in the ear
Discharge of pus
Fluid drainage and pressure in the ear
Headache
Hearing loss
Causes of Ear infection:
At the time, Eustachian tubes get blocked or swollen, bacterias and fluid get trapped inside the ear and cause ear infection.
Allergies
Sinus
Cold
Excess Mucus
Smoking
Swollen adenoids
Treatment: According to David Greene MD, most ear infections go on their own but several times infection becomes chronic and need antibiotics and sometimes if antibiotics don't work, the sufferer is candidate for ear tubes.
